Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 13, 2026
This policy applies to the iOS app Pocket Change: Coin Identifier (bundle ID com.appbusinessventures.pocketchange), published by App Business Ventures LLC (“we”, “us”).
In short:
- To identify a coin, Pocket Change sends the photos you scan and any notes you add to our server, which asks OpenAI’s AI model to read the coin. We don’t store your photos. It asks your permission the first time.
- Your collection and scan history are stored on your iPhone, not on our servers.
- Pocket Change has no accounts and no ads, never sells your data, and doesn’t ask to track you.
Photos, notes and identification
When you scan a coin, Pocket Change sends the photos you took or picked (reduced in size) and the notes you typed to our server at pocketchange.appholdings.org over an encrypted connection. Our server sends them to OpenAI, whose AI model reads the coin’s type, date, mint mark and condition. Under OpenAI’s API terms this data isn’t used to train their models; OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse. Our server does not save the photos; it keeps the result (not the photos) in memory for up to 7 days so that scanning the same photo again gives the same answer.
Values come from our own price guide: one entry per kind of coin (for example “1964-D Washington quarter”), shared by all users and stored on our servers. A guide entry contains only facts about the coin, never your photos, notes or anything about you. Melt values use metal spot prices our server reads from a public price service; your device doesn’t contact that service.
When you ask the expert a question about a coin, the question, the conversation so far and the coin’s details are sent the same way to OpenAI to write the answer. We don’t store your questions.
To keep the service fair we count scans per day per device and per network address. The device count uses a one-way hash of Apple’s app-specific device identifier (identifier for vendor); counts are kept in memory and reset every day.
Your collection
Saved coins, your scan history, your notes, prices you paid and your photos are stored in Pocket Change’s storage on your iPhone. They are included in your iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) according to your own backup settings, so they move to a new iPhone you set up from a backup. Deleting a coin or the app removes it from your device. When you share or export your collection, iOS hands it to the app you choose.
Camera and photos
Pocket Change uses the camera only while you scan, and the photo picker only for the photos you choose. It doesn’t ask for access to your whole photo library.
Purchases
Pocket Change Pro subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple; we never see your payment details. Apple gives the app signed transaction information (product, purchase and expiry dates, transaction IDs), which we use to unlock Pro and to measure sales, and sends us App Store Server Notifications about renewals, cancellations and refunds. If you start a free trial and allow notifications, Pocket Change reminds you the day before the trial ends with a local notification.
Analytics and ad measurement
Pocket Change uses ACAnalytics, our own analytics service, to understand how the app is used and which of our ads lead to installs and subscriptions. It collects:
- an app-scoped device identifier (identifier for vendor) and an install identifier;
- app version, iOS version, device model, and the language, region and currency settings of your device;
- the IP address your device connects from, and the approximate location (country, region, city and postal code) that our hosting provider, Cloudflare, derives from it;
- in-app events, such as finishing onboarding, starting or finishing a scan, saving a coin or viewing the subscription screen, with coin types and counts only (never your photos, notes or chat text);
- App Store transaction and product IDs of your purchases, and Apple’s App Store receipt;
- an Apple Search Ads attribution token, which tells us which Search Ads campaign, if any, led to the install.
Pocket Change doesn’t use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and doesn’t ask to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
Sharing
We don’t sell personal information. We share data only with service providers that process it for us (OpenAI for AI processing, Cloudflare for analytics hosting), with Apple for purchases, or when the law requires it.
Children
Pocket Change is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Your choices and rights
You can decline the AI permission (Pocket Change then can’t identify coins), turn the camera off for Pocket Change in iOS Settings, delete coins or the whole app at any time, and turn notifications off. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, or to object to its processing. Because Pocket Change has no accounts, email us from the app (Settings › Contact support) so we can find your data, and we will respond within 30 days.
Security and international transfers
Data sent to our services travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Changes
We will update this page when the app’s data practices change and revise the effective date above.
